Northwoods Ladies Springdale 21 Speed Hybrid Bicycle Product Description

Northwoods is a company you may not have heard of before.  It is a family-owned ma and pa bike shop.  “With four generations of our family working at Northwood Cycles cycling is in our blood and is a hobby as well as a business.” You can see thought and care went into the Northwoods Ladies Springdale 21 Speed Hybrid Bicycle.

Designed for recreational use and around-town commuting, this hybrid bicycle features a custom lightweight aluminum frame and 700c tires.  Uses quality Shimano components.  Equipped with 21 speeds and easy adjustability for rolling terrain.  Linear pull brakes for easy and comfortable stopping power.  It also includes alloy rims, quick release seat clamp, rear rack, and fenders.  Northwoods hybrid bikes for women are paired with upright comfort-rise handlebars for an easy riding position.

Northwoods Ladies Springdale 21 Speed Hybrid Bicycle PROS AND CONS

  • Very sturdy aluminum frame
  • Customer service is reportedly very good
  • Shifts easily and rides well.
  • The low price point for the quality of the frame and components

  • The bike comes unassembled – as opposed to Schwinn and others that come mostly pre-assembled
  • Also, the manual is adequate and not easy to follow
  • Not as lightweight as other hybrid bicycles (but definitely feels sturdy)

We like the idea of a family-owned bicycle business running for four generations, and the Northwoods Ladies Springdale 21 Speed Hybrid Bicycle is the same quality hybrid bike as you might get with Schwinn.  It’s priced lower possibly because the frame is not as lightweight as you would find with Schwinn and other better-known bike companies. A big issue with buyers is that this bike does not come assembled at all whereas most bikes are pre-assembled.  Once assembled, this bike seems quite sturdy and solid and easy to ride.   If you need lighter or mostly pre-assembled, check the Schwinn Discover Women’s Hybrid Bicycle and if it is out of your price range, come back to this one.

What Buyers Are Saying

“I bought this bike for my daughter. We ride on greenways together but ride an average of 26.miles at a time. This frame is super lightweight aluminum we did do some upgrading of components but for the money, this is a super all-around bike for your money. Another nice thing about this bike is that it has a taller frame suitable for adults. Most department store bikes have smaller frames say around 17 inches. Too small for most average to tall adults. You can’t buy the frame this cheap plus its got 700 wheels. Its been a winner for us….”

“Opened the box and noticed the packaging appeared inadequate for the item. Very disappointed in the way it was packaged.  Anyway, for someone who isn’t mechanically inclined, the instructions are inadequate. Being mechanically savvy, I put the bike together without much of a problem. It really is a well made, beautiful bike. I will need to make adjustments on the gears but I know my daughter is going to love it.  I would have given it more stars because it is really a nice bike but the instructions and especially the poor packaging disappointed me… ”

“My parents initially bought me this bike as a gift and it was stolen so I purchased a replacement. Obviously I liked it enough to buy it again, and the price was the best I’ve seen anywhere for the quality.  I have two major issues with the bike: both bikes have had almost embarrassingly squeaky brakes.  The description says lightweight aluminum. This is the heaviest bike I’ve felt.  Overall, it is a solid and comfortable bike. I would highly recommend for a woman or teen who wants a cute but functional bike for basic commuting and exercise rather than long trips or serious cycling. Can’t beat the price…
