From November 9 to 11, 2019, Professor Shen Sibao and Professor Bian Yongmin from the Department of International Law, UIBE, attended the China Forum on International Legal Cooperation, Guangzhou, at the invitation of China Law Society. Legal professionals from more than 40 BRI countries and 4 international organizations attended the forum. President Xi Jinping offered a congratulatory letter to the forum. Wang Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of National People’s Congress, attended the forum and delivered a keynote speech. Li Xi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, attended and addressed the forum. Chen Xunqiu, secretary of the party committee and executive vice president of the China Law Society, and He Zhongyou, a member of the Standing Committee of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, served as the forum chairmen. The participants spoke actively to explore the rule of law in the Belt and Road Initiative and memorialized the Chairman’s Statement of the China Forum on International Legal Cooperation (2019).

Professor Shen Sibao made a speech on BRI and building high-level international economic and trade rules at the meeting on November 10th. Professor Bian Yongmin attended the seminar about China-Oceania cooperation on the rule of law and the discussion on China-Oceania connectivity and legal business environment on November 11th. The two professors also exchanged their views on strengthening the legal construction of BRI with participants. UIBE graduates also attended the meeting, including doctoral graduate Jiang Qi, now president of Deheng lawyers’ group, doctoral graduate Yang Xingxing, now teacher of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, masters graduate Gu Haiyan, now manager of Sina Corporation Legal Department. The teachers and students of UIBE law school have become an important force in supporting the legal construction of BRI.

During the forum, professors and leaders of the University of Scientiarum Szegediensis in Hungary also took the initiative to discuss the establishment of cooperation with our school and expressed its sincere desire to cooperate.
